Why film?
The whites are not “too white” or blown out. The skin tones and textures are silky smooth – nervous about imperfect skin?? Then FILM is for you! The color is vibrant and rich, but realistic. And the entire image has the feeling of being swept up in a dream.
Film is, in my opinion, the best. It’s the best for any client that wants their photos to do more than mimic a scene, but to capture pure – timeless – beauty.
Do I still shoot digital? Yup! Sometimes I need to. My goal is to deliver my clients with the best image, in every situation. That means utilizing all the tools at my disposal. So if I’m shooting in a dark church or reception hall… if I only have half-a-second to get that shot of your baby being born… if you have seven kiddos, and they all have a tendency to blink… ya, I’ll be reaching for my digital camera.
Do I edit my digital images to look like film? Yup! I want my work to be as cohesive as possible – to flow together as seamlessly as it can. My goal is for it to be incredibly difficult for my clients to pick out the film shots from the digital shots. But there’s a difference. And if you see it – and if you love the look of film as much as I do, then I just might be the photographer for you!
What’s the process?
If you’re used to a photographer that shoots only digital, you aren’t in for too many surprises, as the entire experience is pretty much the same (minus the fact that my shutter makes quite a bit more noise). We select a time and location. I help with any and all wardrobe questions and concerns. We meet. I provide plenty of direction and posing cues.
You might notice that I take fewer (total) shots. That’s because I am taking my time, framing the scene. Why take 100 photos of the same pose, when I can capture it in one or two if I just sloooow down and wait for that perfect moment?
Once we wrap up the session, I immediately mail my film rolls to a trusted professional lab to develop, scan and edit the negatives. In about 5-7 days, the lab sends me the film scans as digital files, which I upload to your online gallery and send to you!
No, you won’t be handed a pile of negatives to deal with. And no, you won’t be left with just prints from your session – though you SHOULD totally print your favorites! And heck, go wild and even FRAME a few!
